Keeping Your Creativity flowing

Always doing different things to encourage your creative muscles to stay strong is really important.

Why? Because this means we have more ideas and ways to connect new ways of thinking.

The hard part, and where we can get stuck, is that our minds like repetition and simplicity. This means we go back to things that are familiar. And our brains often solve our problems in the exact same way.

You may have heard the path of least resistance.

This is where a “beginner’s mindset” is so important.

Beginner’s mindset is actually a concept from Zen Buddhism called Shoshin: It refers to having an attitude of openness, eagerness, and lack of preconceptions when studying a subject, even when studying at an advanced level, just as a beginner would.

Sounds simple, but it can be hard if you have fallen into the depths of comfort and adulthood.

As adults, we instantly put pressure on ourselves with goals… We feel like we don’t have the luxury to engage in learning for learning’s sake. Instead, we should enjoy the pleasure of the process.

In my guided mindful Doodle Breaks sessions for corporate teams, I walk people through the beginners mindset. If your workplace is looking to relieve stress and reconnect with the benefits of tactile creative activity, I can help.
